The New Iberia City Council will enter an agreement with Lafayette to share SWAT team services.

Under the agreement, Lafayette police will assist New Iberia police during hostage situations and other dangerous emergency situations.

“The two chiefs are well-versed with each other. They have similar community policing philosophies. I think they’re a very good fit together. They’ve come on a few occasions and will continue to come when we have that need for a SWAT team until we can build our own,” said New Iberia Mayor Freddie DeCourt.
