Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival kicks off tonight

One of the state’s oldest festivals is set to begin tonight in St. Mary Parish.

The Louisiana Shrimp & Petroleum Festival will take over downtown Morgan City in celebration of the Labor Day weekend.

The festivities kick off today, Thursday, August 30, with the 55th annual Artists Guild Show and Sale from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Everett Street Gallery. An official ribbon cutting ceremony at will follow at 5:15 pm on festival grounds under the E.J. Lionel Grizzaffi Bridge.

Tonight’s slate of events will feature carnival rides, music and games.

The festival will continue until Monday, September 3.
