Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with a string of burglaries in New Iberia.

At 3:00 a.m. this morning, New Iberia police were alerted of the three teenagers – 18-year-old David Collins, 17-year-old Jakobie Miller, and a 15-year-old- hanging around a driveway. Collins and Miller are said to be from New Iberia.

When officers located the teens, they recovered property from one of the suspects that had been stolen from a car an hour before, according to a spokesman with the New Iberia Police Department.

Further investigation determined Collins, Miller, and the 15-year-old were responsible for over twenty car burglaries in New Iberia over the past weeks, police say.

Collins and Millers were booked into the Iberia Parish Jail with possession of a stolen firearm, simple burglary (21 counts), contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, theft of goods, and trespassing.

The 15-year-old was transferred to the Lafayette Juvenile Facility.

Police say some of the cars were broken into, but many of them were unlocked. Police advise residents to lock their car doors and the doors to their homes.
