A Ville Platte man has been booked on warrants for theft and arson.

Preston Cason, 20, was arrested on two outstanding warrants obtained by the Louisiana Office of State Fire Marshal in July.

Cason was booked into the Avoyelles Parish Jail on Friday with one count each of Simple Arson and Possession of Stolen Things, in addition to several outstanding warrants from agencies in Evangeline and Avoyelles parishes.

Cason is accused of the July 15th theft of a pick-up truck from Evangeline Parish, and of setting that vehicle on fire a day later off of Diddle Babb Camp Road in Glenmora.

Investigators learned Cason picked up a female and her child in the truck earlier that morning. The female told investigators when she inquired about whose truck it was, Cason admitted to taking it from a friend without permission. The female told investigators Cason burned it once it ran out of gas.

Investigators secured a warrant for his arrest, but Cason could not be located immediately.

Cason is pending transfer to the Rapides Parish Jail.
