One man is dead, another seriously injured after the vehicle they were in ran off the road and struck a tree, according to Louisiana State Police.
Troopers say that shortly before 4:00 pm on Monday, August 6, 2018, they responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-10 Westbound about 1 mile east of Louisiana Highway 397 in Calcasieu Parish.
An investigation revealed that a car was traveling west on I-10 when the driver lost control of the vehicle during a heavy rainstorm. That vehicle ran off the right side of the road and struck a tree, a release states.
The front seat passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by the Calcasieu Parish Coroner’s Office. The driver was seriously injured and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. A passenger in the back seat received minor injuries.
Names are being withheld at this time pending notification of family members.
