Second victim dies in St. Martinville shooting

The second man in a July 30th shooting in St. Martin Parish has died. 

At 8:15 p.m. in St. Martinville, a 911 call was received by a passing motorist who reported there were two men in a vehicle on the side of the road who appeared to have been shot, according to Major Ginny Higgins, spokeswoman for the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. Demarcus Joseph Fontenette, 36, of New Iberia, was dead; and the second victim, Rusty Joseph Allen, 39, of New Iberia, was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Today, Allen died. 

The victims who were driving a four-door black Honda Civic were traveling from New Iberia to St. Martinville on Hwy. 31, while being followed by a second vehicle, according to detectives. The victims’ vehicle was shot at several times in the 7300 block of Hwy., 31., by an unknown number of occupants in the second vehicle.
