Back-to-school shopping is already in full swing and many of our kids have already outgrown their uniforms.

Buying new uniforms each year can get pretty pricey so KATC’s Abby Breidenbach has rounded up a few places in Acadiana to outfit kids for less.

Thrift Shopping

Discounted school uniforms are not too tough to find and sometimes, you just have to dig a little. One of the best deals you can dig for is the thrift shop uniform.

"For children’s uniforms, they’re $2.99 and our adult-sized uniforms are $4.99, so you can get a shirt and shorts for under ten dollars even in the adult sizes," said Cristy Ross of Goodwill Acadiana.

Local Goodwill stores carry donated uniforms from kids at all the schools around Acadiana. Sometimes you can even find them new.

"I was able to look through this morning and I did see a couple of things with brand new tags on them," said Ross.

Big Retail

If mainstream retailers are more your speed, clothes can be picked up while out shopping for supplies at locations like Walmart or Target .

"Definitely, you can get all your uniform shopping done here. And this year for the first time we’re carrying even plus sizes for bigger kids, like I was a big kid. Last year we didn’t really carry bigger sizes, but this year we do," said William Fairburn, Target team leader.

Boutiques

Resale boutiques like Baby and Me in Lafayette may also carry uniforms and this shop makes sure every hem is finished and the buttons are all there before they sell you anything used.

"The uniforms are taken care of and top of the line as far as in good shape that anyone can expect for what I like to call giveaway prices," said Brenda Desormeaux, store president.

Those looking for clothes can also host a uniform swap with friends to keep it completely free.
