New flood maps for Lafayette Parish are set to go into effect on Dec. 21.
FEMA issued a letter of final determination for the new maps in June, according to a list posted in the agency’s web database.
The new maps will go into effect for all of the parish: Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Lafayette, Scott, Youngsville and unincorporated Lafayette Parish, according to FEMA.
The maps can be viewed on Lafayette Consolidated Government’s website.
Effective flood-zone maps in Lafayette Parish date back to 1996.
New maps were first revealed in 2006, but they’ve been held up by challenges and revisions.
