Police in Morgan City are reminding residents that it’s that time of year when alligators leave their natural habitat and often travel into the city limits.

Police Chief James F. Blair reminds citizens that if provoked or stumbled upon, alligators will attack. The reptiles can pose a danger to small children and pets.

Do not feed alligators in these areas, added the chief.

The alligator in the photo was located in the Walnut Dr. Canal and removed from the area.

Residents are advised to contact the Morgan City Police Department at (985) 380-4605 if they come in contact with alligators
