Chief Neal Lartigue with the Ville Platte Police Department is asking residents for information on an escaped inmate.

On July 5, 2018, Kenneth Perkins Jr., 35, was transported to the Ville Platte City Jail from the Evangeline Parish Sheriff’s Office on misdemeanor charges of delinquent fines, and as the deputy removed the handcuffs and turned to leave the building, the inmate allegedly shoved the deputy and escaped from the city jail.

Police say after escaping on foot the Perkins stole a bicycle from a nearby yard and left the area.

Perkins, last known address of 600 block of East Jackson Street in Ville Platte, is wanted on a warrant for additional charges of escape, theft and battery on a correction officer, according to the chief.

Perkins is not considered armed or dangerous at the time of the escape, added Lartigue.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of this Kenneth Perkins Jr., contact the Ville Platte Police Department at (337) 363-1313. Your call will remain anonymous.
