92-year-old allegedly kills son who planned to move her to a nursing facility

A 92-year-old woman was arrested in Arizona after she allegedly shot an killed her son because he was planning to place her in an assisted living home. 

Maricopa County deputies say that 92-year-old Anna Mae Blessing shot and killed her 72-year-old son at their home in Arizona on Monday. Deputies say that Blessing allegedly told them that before the shooting she’d been contemplating for several days about her son’s plan to place her into an assisted living facility. 

Deputies say Blessing confronted her son in his bedroom while concealing two pistols in the pockets of her robe. Blessing allegedly told deputies she removed the handguns during the confrontation and fired multiple shots at her son, killing him. 

According to deputies, Blessing pointed the gun at her son’s girlfriend next and the two fought over the weapon before it fell from Blessing’s hand. Blessing allegedly attempted to retrieve the second handgun but that too was knocked from her hand by the girlfriend. 

Blessing was arrested and booked on charges of 1st-degree murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of kidnapping.
