An Opelousas man has been arrested, accused of rape.

23-year-old  Vedall Ledet of Opelousas has been charged with forcible rape, aggravated 2nd degree battery and false imprisonment.

Police say his arrest came after officers responded to several 911 hang-ups at a residence in the 800 block of West South Street.  Upon arrival officers say they could not find anyone at the home but located the victim.

Police say that it was found that the victim had been trying to make contact with police without Ledet knowing but was unsuccessful in her attempts. Ledet then later allegedly made her leave the residence by force and sexually assaulted her, police say.

Ledet was arrested Thursday June 28, 2018.
