Abbeville man allegedly steals meat from freezer, sets house on fire

The Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office arrested an Abbeville man after he allegedly entered a home, stole meat from a freezer, and then set the house on fire.

The Marshal’s Office arrested 60-year-old David Dyson, Jr. of Abbeville after an investigation into a suspicious house fire on Wednesday, June 13 in the 1400 block of South Louisiana Street. 

Investigators say that man with a distinctive limp was seen on surveillance video entering a home and leaving ten minutes later with a white bag that investigators say contained meat from a freezer. The Marshal’s office says that in the video a glow can be seen coming from the window of the home as he was leaving 

Investigators allegedly identified Dyson from the video and brought him in for questioning. The Marshal’s Office says that Dyson allegedly admitted during questioning to entering the home, taking meat from the freezer. 

Dyson was arrested and booked on charges of one count simple burglary and one count simple arson. He is currently being held at the Vermilion Parish Correctional Center.
