First responders in Lafayette are training for possible school shooting scenarios.
Law enforcement and medical personnel took part in the drill at Southside High School Monday morning.
School staff also took part in helping first responders draft a response plan.
"The teachers get to not only witness, but sometimes they can be role players," Youngsville Police Chief Rickey Boudreaux. "They get to smell the gunpowder, they get to hear the shots going off, they know what to listen for, what to look for and how to be of assistance to us because no one’s going to know their school and their classroom better than them."
