Laura’s II in Lafayette is hosting a vigil this evening in honor of celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain who passed away Friday. The public is invited to attend.

The restaurant, known for its soul food, played host to Bourdain while he was filming an upcoming episode of his show Parts Unknown. In the episode "Cajun Mardi Gras," set to air next Sunday, the Emmy-winning host visited Mamou for their Courir de Mardi Gras, Opelousas for Billy’s boudin and crackling, Suire’s Grocery and Restaurant in Kaplan, and even the world’s only Popeye’s buffet in Lafayette

When MadonnaBroussard, the owner of Laura’s II, heard the news of his passing, she said, "I was certainly floored and shocked to hear that something like that would happen to someone that had just been in my restaurant with so much attention, so much vibe, just a following of great people."

Now, Broussard and her employees are hosting the vigil to commemorate his life and promote suicide prevention.

The vigil will start at 6 p.m. in the business’ parking lot at 1904 W University Ave.
