A man was arrested on arson charges for intentionally setting his girlfriend’s house on fire, according to Lafayette Fire Department spokesman Alton Trahan.

Fire investigators responded to a house fire in the 100 block of Oxbow Drive on January 18. They ruled the cause arson and found Cameron Simmons, 24, of Lafayette, was responsible for setting the fire in a bedroom, Trahan said in a news release.

Investigators believe Simmons set the fire in retaliation after a domestic-related incident with his girlfriend, Trahan said.

The structure and the contents sustained heavy smoke and fire damage.

Simmons was booked into the Lafayette Parish Jail on counts of simple arson, simple burglary, aggravated arson, simple criminal damage to property, and aggravated battery with dangerous weapon.
