Firefighters in Lafayette say a Lafayette man has been arrested after a fire at a home on La Neuville Road was determined to be intentionally set.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. Sunday June 3, 2018, Lafayette Fire Department responded to the 1700 block of La Neuville Road for a report of a vehicle on fire under a carport.

Officials say that when firefighters arrived, a chair was on fire under the carport. The fire was starting to spread to the house but crews were able to extinguish the fire within minutes of arriving on the scene.

The home sustained light fire damage on the exterior wall. The vehicle only had heat damage.

Lafayette fire investigators say the fire originated on the chair under the carport. Information gathered led them to conclude that the fire was intentionally set.

An occupant of the dwelling, 33-year-old Brent Bourke was arrested for setting the chair on fire. Bourke was charged with simple arson and booked into Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.
