Our Acadiana Heroes are back home after a trip to the nation’s capital.

24 WWII veterans from Acadiana were able to travel to Washington, D.C. to see historic and memorial sights honoring those who served.

The honor flight returned earlier than expected but that didn’t hinder the well-wishers. People were lined up outside of the loading area at Lafayette Airport with American Flags in hand to greet the Veterans and welcome them home.

Among the crowd were family, friends and two very small children dressed in army fatigues.

After a very short wait, KATC, along with all those in attendance waved flags and welcomed home our Veterans.

KATC’s Abby Breidenbach and Jim Hummel will have more tonight at 5, and 10.
