Services will be Friday for WWII vet, Pearl Harbor survivor

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 pm Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church for William Charles “Bill” Puissegur, 96, who died on Sunday. 

The family is requesting visiting hours to be held Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 pm.  A rosary will be recited Friday at 11:00 am.  Interment will be in Woodlawn Mausoleum.

A Rayne native, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and survived the attack on Pearl Harbor while serving aboard the U.S.S. Maryland. He also served on the U.S.S. Hobby during the capture of Iwo Jima. 

Puuissegur was married to his wife Antoinette Gossen for 67 years and they had eight children, 17 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Antoinette died in February 2015.
