Rayne Police have arrested a 13-year-old student at Armstrong Middle School after an unloaded gun was discovered.
Today, an officer learned from an anonymous source that the student had a handgun on campus, according to Chief Carroll Stelly. The student was taken into custody for violating the following offenses: carrying a concealed weapon, illegal possession of a handgun by a juvenile, possessing a firearm in a firearm free zone and possession of a stolen firearm.
Louisiana law prevents the police department from releasing the identity of the juvenile, stated Chief Stelly.
School officials say the gun was not loaded, the child had no ammunition with him and that the child had made no threats at any time. He showed the gun to classmates, and they reported the gun to the administration.
