The Saint Martin Parish DARE program awarded DARE essay winner to a Saint Martinville Primary fifth grade student.
The award was presented to Gabrielle Smith at a promotion ceremony Monday morning. All participants in the DARE program write an essay which was judged against the rest of Smith’s class and then judged against all class winners from all schools.
"Oh, it’s always my favorite day of the year," said Nichole Airhart, fifth-grade teacher. "It’s nerve-racking on my side, but I’m so proud of them for their hard work. It’s amazing. It’s a great day."
