The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office is warning businesses in the parish about a scam that has recently surfaced involving sandwiches.
The department says they have received several complaints from businesses about a man attempting to scam local businesses into pre-purchasing a local restaurant’s sandwiches which he says he is selling for a fundraiser.
Deputies say that 49-year-old Michael L. Derrick of Westlake has allegedly attempted to scam numerous businesses with fake names and stories about using the money to help sick family members.
Victims have told deputies that Derrick has allegedly been asking them to prepay for a sandwich that he claims he will deliver at a later time.
Deputies say that Derrick was last seen driving a gray, 2012 Nissan SUV. Those with information on Derrick’s whereabouts or may have been victimized are asked to call the sheriff’s department at 491-3605.
