Vermilion Parish Deputies have arrested a Kaplan man following an alleged standoff with officers.

According to Vermilion Parish Sheriff Mike Couvillon, on Monday, April 23, 2018, deputies responded to a complaint of a person in a vehicle discharging a firearm at a location off of Farmer Road in the parish between Kaplan and Gueydan.

When deputies arrived, officers say the suspect, identified as 44-year-old  Blaine Anthony Romero of Kaplan, allegedly retreated to a field off Beech Road where deputies surrounded him. Romero was allegedly armed with a handgun and long gun hiding in brush along a canal embankment.

After several hours of negotiating, the Vermilion SRT along with negotiators apprehended Romero without incident on a felony warrant for illegal discharge of a firearm.
