The United States Coast Guard says they are responding to heavy fuel oil discharge near Norco, Louisiana.

The Coast Guard says that they received a report of the discharge at around 1 am. The fuel was reportedly coming from a foreign flagged vessel near mile marker on the Lower Mississippi River at the Shell Norco Manufacturing Complex.

2,600 gallons of oil were discharged into the river, according to a press release. There are no waterway closures or restrictions due to the incident. The discharge has since been secured.

The Coast Guard says that OMI Environmental Solutions is also responding to the spill and that there are no reports of wildlife impacts or injuries.

The incident is under investigation and the coast guard says they are working with federal, state, and local partners with clean up of the spill.
