Middle and High School students in Iberia Parish will be required to have mesh or clear backpacks next year.
The school board approved the change at a meeting Wednesday night. Officials touted the rule as a safety measure for schools. That measure will be put into place for the starting of the 2018-2019 school year.
Tonight, the board also approved the reconfiguration of Jeanerette Elementary to a Kindergarten through second grade school and St. Charles Elementary to third grade to sixth grade.
