The City of Breaux Bridge’s iconic bridge will remain unnamed, according to Mayor Ricky Calais.
The decision to keep the bridge nameless was decided by the city council at a meeting on Tuesday, April 10. Suggestions had been made that the council rename the bridge in honor of longtime councilman, Gary "Bimmie" Champagne who passed away last month.
The council has decided instead to honor Champagne with a dedicated plaque on city property near the bridge. Champagne was instrumental in supporting and leading efforts in the upkeep and cleaning of the bridge.
