Minutes before a vigil remembering a gun violence victim began today, Opelousas Police announced that they had arrested someone for his death.

The family and friends of Ricky Freeman, 46, are gathering tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the location where he died, the 400 block of Common Street.

Police announced the arrest of Fanuel Aaron Jr., who was booked with second-degree murder in connection with Freeman’s death.

Freeman was found dead in the street at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Common Street at 3:36 a.m. Monday, police say.

Freeman suffered one gunshot wound to the chest.
