Rapides Parish Sheriff’s deputies have arrested a fugitive wanted on warrants who allegedly led authorities on a high speed chase this weekend.

Samuel Lee was wanted on several warrants, but when Evangeline Paris deputies tried to pull him over, he took off. He allegedly was driving a stolen car, and had a female passenger, police said.

He allegedly led authorities on a high-speech chase through several parishes late Sunday, finally abandoning the vehicle near Cheneyville, police said. Rapides deputies stayed in the area overnight, keeping track of any calls about suspicious persons or noises, but didn’t come across Lee.

A spokesman for Sheriff William Hilton said Lee was apprehended at about 10:30 a.m. in the area of Beauregard Road near LA 1 South. Deputies got a call about a stolen vehicle in that area, and on their way there saw the allegedly stolen vehicle.

The deputy turned around and attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the driver took off at a high rate of speed, the spokesman said.

Deputies, along with Louisiana State Police troopers, began the pursuit which led them from LA Highway 3170 at LA Highway 457 all the way into Evangeline Parish near LA Highway 106.

The suspect was taken into custody and is being booked into Evangeline Parish Jail.

Several agencies assisted in the pursuit today and the investigation is still ongoing.
