The State Fire Marshal’s office says they were called by St. Mary Fire District #11 just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, April 8th to assist with determining the cause and origin of a fire at a business in Cypremort Point.  Investigators say a sheriff’s deputy, passing the Las Stop Marina, noticed a fire in the building, as well as a pick-up truck that appeared to have crashed into a shrimp boat in the marina parking lot. That deputy reportedly discovered one of the marina’s owners in the truck and helped them to safety away from the fire scene.

The fire marshal’s office says deputies also learned that the two owners of the marina had been in an argument earlier in the evening. They also noted that there were several bottles of propane in and around the structure, which was not out of the ordinary for the business. The building was equipped with electricity at the time of the fire. The damage to the building is described as a total loss. Due to the extent of that damage, at this time, the cause and origin of the fire is undetermined. The investigation into this fire is still active.

Officials we’ve spoken with today say no arrests have been made, and the exact cause has still not yet been determined.
