Students, teachers, and staff at Myrtle Place Elementary School are celebrating Mardi Gras ahead of Fat Tuesday.
They paraded down Myrtle Place Boulevard dressed in costumes while throwing beads. Before the parade, a Courir de Mardi Gras was held.
Principal Catherine Bricelj says the theme was “Local Heart, Global Mind,” representing the different ways Mardi Gras is celebrated in each country.
The elementary school is part of the French Immersion program in Lafayette Parish with teachers from ten different countries.
In Duson, the city’s elementary school also held their Mardi Gras parade.
