The Lafayette Police Department and the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission are launching a campaign during the Mardi Gras season, reminding drivers to stay sober and those intending on drinking alcoholic beverages to designate a driver.

The police department released the following statement:

“The Lafayette Police Department, in conjunction with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission, will be conducting saturation patrols for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign during the Mardi Gras season. This campaign will be conducted from Friday, February 22 through Thursday, March 7. Special emphasis will be placed on drivers that are impaired while driving. Designate a driver if you intend to drink; by not doing so, it could result in costly fines and serious jail time.”
