Basin Dance Collective will present an original dance performance, Sport Suites, September 12-14 at 7:30pm and September 15 at 2:00pm at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.
Basin Dance Collective describes Sport Suites as a dance performance for all ages inspired by all the things we love (and love to hate) about sports! Direction and Choreography is by Clare Cook with guest choreographers Nicole Curtis, Whitney Hebert, and Sharon Leahy. Dancers include Sydni Bourg, Nicole Curtis, Michael Gasper, Rachel Geiger, Whitney Hebert, Alex McBride. “This show uses the intersection of sports and dance to showcase the striking similarities between these two movement genres, ultimately revealing the many shades of our universal human experience when faced with competition,” Cook said.
Basin Dance Collective is an entity of Basin Arts, a local nonprofit organization with a mission of supporting local professional artists and inspiring creativity across generations, and it is the only paid, professional dance company in the Acadiana region.
Tickets to the performance of Sport Suites can be purchased through the AcA Box Office, with General Admission tickets available for $31, AcA Member tickets for $28, and students and senior tickets for $25.
Group rates are also available for groups of ten or more. On September 12th, Basin Arts will host a celebratory Opening Night Victory Party as a fundraiser for the organization. Guests will be among the first in Lafayette to see Sport Suites. Following the performance, they will be transported back in time, on a school bus no less, to the Acadian Superette for a festive evening of music, stadium inspired gourmet food, and lots of sports and arts themed surprises. A $125 donation includes a ticket to the performance and access to post-show Victory Party. All proceeds go towards Basin Arts and Basin Dance Collective to support the local arts community.
