Once upon time, there was 19-year old Opelousas girl named Lindsay. “A simple college student who had an idea,” explains Lindsay Council.

The idea was about people in need,--- artwork—and people who care. “I wanted to bring cards and letters and things to bring to nursing homes,” adds Council.

Lindsay talked to her friend Rosemary who “…took her little sparkle of an idea and we’re turning it into a big old diamond,” laughs Rosemary Robbins, Volunteer Coordinator of Audubon Hospice.

And the next thing you knew, there was a team of artwork and artists who wanted hospice patients to know that other people care and want to express the following message. “We love you, we’re praying for you, we’re thinking about you,” adds Dolly Brandt, Hospice Liason for Audubon Hospice.

“We are looking for people who want to create cards, poems, pictures and then we’re going to distribute them to patients in these facilities, and bring them some pieces of joy,” explains Robbins.

It’s called ‘Project All-Heart’, and all across Acadiana-- like at Heleaux’s Grocery in Lafayette—there are bins from Audubon Hospice in which you can share the fruits of your creativity. It’s for artists of all ages and skill levels. “You can be two, you can be 22 you can be 102, it doesn’t matter,” laughs Robbins.

The art--- that’s pictures, stories, poems-- will be collected, then distributed to touch the lives of hospice patients who at least right now, just can’t get out. “I can give them a piece of my heart by making art and getting others to join in,” explains Council.

It’s another chance for us to step up, says Brandt. “With joy and caring for the senior citizens that are alone, letting them know that they’re not alone,” says Brandt.

Here you go: Time to let your creative nature provide an artistic hug, and enhance a basic, all-heart kind of message. “Bringing joy—that’s the biggest thing,” concludes Robbins, “truly bring joy to someone. That’s what we want to do.”
