The City of New Iberia is preparing for its 30th annual World Championship Gumbo Cookoff.
This year's theme is "Lights, Camera, Gumbo."
KATC's Abby Breidenbach was LIVE in New Iberia on Thursday, October 10 with a preview.
Hosted by the Iberia Chamber of Commerce, the cookoff will fill Downtown with the smells of a Louisiana fall from Saturday, October 12 to Sunday, October 13.
76 teams will line Main Street in the hopes of cooking an award winning batch of gumbo.
KATC's Katie Easter spoke with a few competitors about the cookoff. World Championship Gumbo Cookoff begins to take over New Iberia
Activities begin on Saturday at 8:00 am with a 5K Roux Run followed by friendly competitions between cooks of all ages.
The Meanest Beans Competition begins at 10:00 am with the Youth Gumbo Cookoff starting at 3:00 pm.
On Sunday, the main event gets underway with the World Championship Gumbo Cookoff at 10:00 am.
Among the competition, guests will be able to sample culinary creations and enjoy entertainment from local bands.
