A 12-year-old was arrested on Wednesday after police say he allegedly shot his mother in the head at their New Orleans home.
Officers were called to the 1400 block of South Roman Street on Wednesday, July 3 in response to a call of an unconscious woman. Police say that when they arrived aid was administered and it was discovered that the woman had been shot in the head.
She was transported to a local hospital where police say she remains in critical condition.
During an investigation, police say they learned that the woman's 12-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter were inside the home at the time of the incident. A search of the home allegedly led to the discovery of a semi-automatic firearm and spent bullet casing in the 12-year-old's bedroom.
Police say an arrest warrant was obtained for the boy. He was arrested and booked on charges of attempted second degree murder.
