Medicine Bin Pharmacy has been able to say "We're Open" throughout the pandemic, as the locally-owned business was providing essential services to the community.
The Lafayette pharmacy offers traditional prescription refills, along with other services such as health screenings and immunizations.
Owner and pharmacist LaShunda Green said it was extremely important for her pharmacy to remain open during the pandemic, as she and her associates wanted to make sure that their patients were being taken care of.
Medicine Bin already offered drive-thru services, so Green said that it was a fairly smooth transition into modifying their store for customers. The front lobby was closed to customers and Green and her associates focused on drive-thru services.
The pharmacy also offers free delivery services to patients, and Green said there has been a big increase in that area. She said the service has been a big help to make sure elderly and immunocompromised patients don't risk exposure or come in contact with others. Her staff has even gone above and beyond to ensure patient safety, in offering to go to the store for them.
Green said they told patients, "If you need us to run into the store and pick up something for you, don't hesitate to call. That's what we're here for."
While the lobby of Medicine Bin is still closed, Green and her employees are preparing to welcome customers inside again. They've added barriers inside so social distancing measures are followed. Employees are also wearing masks and ensuring all safety precautions are followed - all for the safety of the patients and associates.
As the community begins to reopen and enter Phase Two, Green had some words of encouragement for her fellow residents.
"I think we did a great job, for the most part, of taking care of everything in the best way we could. I think we did an exceptional job with what we were facing."
