Of course it’s been a different world under the Corona Era—but Dean-O’s Pizza, Dean-O’s South, they’re one of the guys that can say “We’re Open."
Inside, it appears to be business as usual at Dean-O’s in Lafayette. There’s dough being flattened. There are wings being fried. And yes, there are pizzas in the oven.
The lack of customer activity within doesn’t mean the Dean-O’s faithful aren’t still showing up.
“We have resorted to just to-go orders only, where people can come in, pay for their order and leave,” says Dean-O’s manager Anjelica David, “or we can do curbside.”
Trying new things and getting creative. Curbside was…sort of a foreign word for Dean-O’s.
“Were you doing curbside before?”, I ask David. “We were not. No this is brand-new. Our customers are loving it, so we may have to keep it afterward,” she laughs.
Things were slow at first, and for a while, management had to cut staffing by 50-percent. Even then, says Angelica David, her amazing work crew rose to the occasion.
“We’ve also had some employees who have said, ‘You know, what? Give it to some other employees who need it more.’ Yeah, our employees have been great and working together real well.”
David says… she’s hoping the doors will soon reopen so shte can deliver that full Dean-O's experience. “Because there’s no experience just doing take-out.”
There’s a lesson to be learned from all of things---for everyone.
“One day everything is great and going as expected, and in the blink of an eye everything changes. You just can’t take life for granted. Got to appreciate every moment.”
