School buses on standby for National Guard post-Barry

St. Landry Parish school buses are currently on standby at the Lafayette Airport.

School board officials say that the Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Management has secured 30 of the buses for use by the National Guard and other emergency responders.

Avoyelles Parish also has buses on standby. That parish sent over a dozen buses to Acadiana today to await post-storm orders.

DOTD secretary Shawn Wilson said that "we've activated the vehicle staging area at Lamar-Dixon in conjuction with the National Guard as well as in Lafayette where we have 110 buses placed or being placed."
