Hurricane Laura has claimed the life of an Acadia Parish man.
Acadia Parish Sheriff K.P. Gibson says a tree fell on the house of 68-year-old Jimmy Cart overnight on the Eunice-Iota Highway.
Relatives say Cart was sleeping in his bedroom when a tree fell on his home.
Gibson says the community now has to cope with both the recovery process and the grieving process.
"You're really sorry for the loss of that person. I'm sure they're trying to settle down for the night the best that they can and then this tragedy happens," said Sheriff Gibson. "But it's also a reminder as well of the uncertainties a storm will do."
