The winter chill that has taken hold of Acadiana Wednesday will stay with us through Friday morning, but expect milder temperatures to return this weekend.

In the near term, it will be a "wind-chilly" evening, but as the night wears on, winds will gradually diminish through daybreak allowing temperatures to drop into the low-mid 30s by morning.

A light freeze and frost can be expected for the northern Acadiana parishes, while farther south a freeze seems less likely but a frost could be possible, nonetheless protect the plants and make sure the pets have a warm place to stay.

Morning temperatures will drop into the mid-30s along the I-10 corridor and farther to the south, exception being right along the immediate coast..

Look for wall to wall sun again for our Thursday with highs in the mid-50s (similar to Wednesday's highs) but it will feel significantly warmer with light winds across the area.

And with clear skies, low dew points and light winds into Thursday night/Friday morning the threat of another frost will be possible as temperatures again head for the mid- to possibly upper 30s for Friday morning lows.

More sunshine Friday and a westerly winds will warm us up nicely for the afternoon with highs getting back into the mid-60s.

This weekend will begin to feel more spring-like with daytime highs pushing 70 Saturday under sunny skies with clouds on the increase Sunday with readings topping out in the lower 70s.

It will turn windy and a little warmer early next week ahead of Acadiana's next weather-maker that will bring a good chance of showers and storms to the area by late Tuesday into Tuesday night.

It still seems there may be at least a low end severe weather threat into late Tuesday with a low-level southerly jet stream (at 5,000ft) still looking to exceed 70 mph...usually one of the markers for severe storms...but there remains a fair bit of uncertainty on timing, intensity and other factors that could produce severe weather, so we'll continue to have to wait and see.

The change for today in the forecast for next week is that following Tuesday/Tuesday night's weather system the weather pattern looking better with another brief winter chill perhaps returning by next Friday.

The following weekend looks pretty good for now.
