The skies across Acadiana will remain rather gloomy with plenty of clouds and some rain chances until a definitive cool front pushes through the area Wednesday morning.

In the near term, expect scattered showers (mostly light and brief) into the evening and part of the overnight hours as a weakening cool front draws up nearly stationary along the coastal parishes by morning.

Some light fog will stay in the forecast mix overnight with the lowest visibility across Cameron, Vermilion, Iberia and St Mary Parishes and particularly right on the immediate coastline near the Gulf.

That same front will briefly drift back northward Tuesday allowing temperatures to once again reach the lower 70s.

A few showers will continue to be possible Tuesday, primarily during the morning hours (and especially near the coast) and then again tomorrow evening as a secondary and stronger cool front arrives late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

Although it will be mostly cloudy Tuesday, a few breaks in the clouds may be possible midday, with sunnier skies possible just 50-100 miles to our north.

After the front passes look for temperatures to finally cool back to near normal for late January under partly cloudy/partly sunny skies Wednesday through Friday.

Highs will top out closer to the lower to mid 60s Wednesday, and will be in the mid-upper 50s Thursday with more sunshine, and in the lower 60s Friday.

Don't put away the sweaters and jackets just yet as temperatures Thursday and Friday mornings will dip down into the upper 30s to lower 40s.

Milder temperatures reaching the lower 70s should return for the weekend, but with some rain chances back, especially for Sunday with our next cool front.

Cool dry weather should follow early in the following week only to get milder mid-next week as yet another frontal system approaches.
