Full sunshine/pleasant temperatures return...cooler next week

and last updated

In the wake of a relatively weak cool front, Acadiana will benefit from cooler nights and sunny skies into the weekend, while a stronger cool front is set to arrive Sunday.

Temperatures will drop into the mid-upper 50s across the area Wednesday night and should rebound into the upper 70s to near 80° in a few spots Thursday afternoon.

More sun and seasonable temperatures courtesy of high pressure are expected to continue Friday into Saturday.

A stronger cool front, perhaps accompanied by a few showers Sunday, will clear the area Sunday night allowing for a sunny and cooler week next week.

Meanwhile in the tropics, Tropical Storm Eta in the extreme eastern/northeastern Gulf of Mexico was grazing the Western Florida Coast Wednesday with locally heavy rainfall and elevated tides along the coast.

Eta should make landfall near the Big Bend of Florida overnight and eventually re-emerge in the Atlantic Thursday afternoon bringing with it gusty winds and several inches of rain to Florida and coastal areas of Georgia through the Carolinas into Friday.

Elsewhere, Tropical Storm Theta will remain a far eastern Atlantic system, while an area of disturbed weather in the Eastern Caribbean looks to develop by the weekend in toward the Western Caribbean.

The Caribbean disturbance is likely to become a depression (at 80%) and has solid tropical storm (or more) potential...the main threat areas with this system look to be Nicaragua & Honduras again into early next week.

Models by the way, are keeping it active in the Western Caribbean through the next couple of weeks, with perhaps one more system that could develop in the wake of what may develop there in the near term.

The next names on the Greek tropical list are "Iota" and "Kappa".

None of the aforementioned potential systems are expected to be Gulf threats.
