First named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season forms off of the East Coast

Tropical Storm Arthur becomes the first named storm of the 2020 hurricane season and has formed off of the U.S. east coast.

Winds are sustained at 40 mph. Arthur is expected to strengthened over the next several days to maximum winds of 60 mph.

Tropical Storm Arthur poses no threat to the Gulf Coast as it treks off to the northeast.

A Tropical Storm watch is in effect for portions of the North Carolina coast.

High surf and gusty winds may start impacting the Carolinas by Monday
