Per the National Hurricane Center, Hurricane Delta continued to strengthen Tuesday afternoon with 145 mph winds at the 4pm advisory Tuesday.

The storm is expected to impact the Yucatan Peninsula overnight through Wednesday morning very near a Category 5 storm with 155 mph winds.

The official forecast track brings the threat of a major hurricane right through the center of Acadiana as potentially a major storm sometime Friday afternoon, evening and into the early night.

At that time, the storm's wind-field will be quite large encompassing a large part of Louisiana, and a damaging storm surge is expected along the Acadiana coast, along with damaging winds and widespread power outages inland.

All Acadiana residents are urged to have all hurricane preparations and a plan in place by late Thursday.

Expect Hurricane WATCHES to be issued for our area Wednesday and WARNINGS likely by early Thursday.
