Hurricane Delta continued to slowly strengthen Thursday evening with maximum sustained winds up to 120 mph, while pressure was slowly dropping throughout the evening.
Delta could strengthen a little more overnight but is expected to level off and perhaps begin a slow weakening process as the storm approaches the Louisiana Coast late Friday afternoon into Friday evening.
The forecast track has not changed significantly over the last 48 hours with landfall expected somewhere across Cameron or Western Vermilion Parish Friday evening.
It is very likely that Delta will make landfall as a strong Category 2 or low end Category 3 with winds probably in the 110-120 mph range.
By landfall the storm will continue to mature meaning the wind field and breath of the storm will widen producing damaging winds across most if not all of Acadiana, in addition to a large surge along the coast, and 4-8 inches of rain with some areas approaching a foot.
