It's that time of year when afternoon showers and thunderstorms become fairly common and with an abundance of moisture in the atmosphere this Memorial Day promises a round of activity in the afternoon.

The morning will be relatively quiet with enough sunshine to quickly push those temperatures into the mid and upper 80s and a heat index that will climb into the low to mid 90s.

This heat mixes with the humidity to start churning up the atmosphere and showers will begin to pop up across Acadiana by about lunch time, and spreading out as we go through the afternoon.

Keep an eye out for the occasional downpour and don't get caught off guard by rumbles of thunder and flashes of lightning, there may even be a strong storm or two that gets going in the west.

There's not a lot of change the next couple of days with afternoon showers and storms remaining common across much of Acadiana.
