Getting More Humid

After a very hot Thursday with afternoon temperatures reaching the upper 90s, it appears another very hot summer day is on tap. Even with yesterday’s high of 98 in Lafayette, heat index values weren’t much higher than the actual temperatures. Today, the humidity will be returning, therefore the heat index will be on the rise today, and even more over the weekend. With some additional moisture, a few isolated showers or thunderstorms will return to the forecast, especially late in the weekend and early next week.

Expect partly cloudy skies again today with afternoon highs around 96 degrees. The heat index could be as high as 103. There will be about a 10% chance for a shower or two to develop, especially over the coastal areas. Overnight, lows will drop into the mid to upper 70s with fair skies. Saturday will bring more heat and humidity with highs in the low to mid 90s, and heat indices in the 105 range. A little better chance for afternoon showers and storms this weekend, but definitely not a wash out. Next week a front will slide close to the area, pooling moisture along the Gulf Coast. This should give us a better chance for afternoon storms early next week. We could definitely use the rain.

Tropical weather remains quiet, with nothing expected to develop over the weekend. August and September will surely be more active!
