Today starts the heat wave for Acadiana as we have our first heat advisory of the summer with highs reaching the mid 90s and feel like temperatures getting up to around 105-109° for much of the afternoon.

Another heat advisory has already been issued for Friday as temperatures will be 1-2 degrees hotter and heat indices will be as high as 109-112°.

So, for those that have to work outside the next couple days make sure you are staying hydrated and taking plenty of breaks.

Also, don’t forget to check on the elderly and make sure you are taking care of your pets and giving them a way to get out of the heat.

The extreme heat will then continue for the weekend as highs will be near 97° on both Saturday and Sunday with feel like temperatures between 107-112°.

Thus, this might be a great weekend to plan a trip to the beach, lake or pool to try to cool off but if you have to get some work done outside you should try to do it early in the morning or late a night when it won’t be nearly as hot and humid.

We will have more hot and humid conditions to begin next week before rain chances finally return to the forecast Wednesday and Thursday helping to drop temperatures a few degrees into the lower 90s.
