Showers and thunderstorms burst through Lafayette on Tuesday afternoon which was a good preview of what we could expect for the next several days as we get into the middle of June.

Thundershowers will become more common through the week with rain chances inching up as we get further into the work week before we get to the heavy rain of the weekend, more on that later.

The morning will start off sunny and humid as they tend to do with the clouds building in the afternoon eventually giving way to a scattering of showers and thunderstorms.

This pattern will continue for several days so keep the umbrellas handy, the car windows rolled up when they’re parked and an eye to the sky in the afternoon.

Lightning will be the biggest issue with any of the thunderstorms and Tuesday’s storms were a good reminder that lightning can occur away from the center of the storm.

There is a surge of moisture deep in the Caribbean which expected to move into the Gulf of Mexico the next few days which will bring heavy showers from south Texas all the way through into Acadiana.

Stay tuned through the week for the latest details available with this weather maker.
