According to Colorado State University’s preliminary seasonal forecast, they anticipate the 2018 Atlantic basin hurricane season to be slightly above-average. Forecasters are predicting 14 named storms, with seven expected to become hurricanes. Three storms are expected to become major hurricanes. They also say they believe at least one major hurricane will make landfall on the continental United States.
Factors that led to their decision include the western tropical Atlantic being anomalously warm right now, while portions of the eastern tropical Atlantic and the far North Atlantic are anomalously cool.

Per NHC Director – the number one indirect hazard from tropical systems, especially post-storm, is cardiac arrest! #NTWC2018 pic.twitter.com/mHVFsq0VOo

Even though the forecast for Atlantic Basin this year will be called “slightly above normal”. It can be a very bad year for you if you’re hit by a storm! It’s all about whether they make landfall or not. Last year: lots of hits w/big storms. @HurricaneCon #NTWC2018 @KATCTV3 pic.twitter.com/doSofbt0mS
